Miss Indiana, Mekayla Diehl, was the hot topic on Twitter after the Miss USA swimsuit competition last night. She was praised for her "normal" looking body that stood out from her competitors.
The Indy Star highlighted several Twitter comments from viewers all across the US. The comments praised and thanked Mekayla for being real and beautiful. Miss Indiana responded on her Facebook page by saying "So cool. I worked hard on my body without obsessing over being too skinny and I couldn't be more proud."
Mekayla wore a stunning custom-designed Sherri Hill gown during the evening gown competition. Sherri Hill is well-know for her high end pageant designs.
Although Mekayla did not make the top 10, she is a winner in our state. Defining beauty through normalcy and realness has become a popular trend throughout the last few months. One example that also exploded on social media was aerie's real campaign which featured images that were not retouched via photoshop.
At RaeLynn's, we believe you define your own beautiful and that doesn't mean skinny. We are proud that Mekayla represented Indiana by presenting her real, healthy self and showed girls across the world that skin and bones doesn't mean beautiful.
Congratulations on a successful competition at Miss USA, Mekayla!
