While I was watching Miss Universe 2010 last night, it was very evident that its not all about the pageant evening gowns, but the person wearing them.

Are pageant evening gowns created equal?

The last two years I have been learning a lot about the very large world of pageants.  When supplying 100's to local pageant girls, I am quickly finding that it is not a color or style of the pageant evening gowns, it’s the person who is wearing it and what they radiate while they are wearing it. During the Miss Universe Pageant last night, it was obvious because the top 5 contestant's pageant evening gowns they were wearing were all so very different.

We watch for pageant evening gowns that are trending

Often, us at RaeLynn's Boutique will watch pageants on TV and go to different local pageants in the area just to see what is “trending” to help us when we are buying.  Also alot of times, we can use this trend of the pageant evening gowns being worn to buy for Prom as well!  I can’t wait for Prom 2011 and for everyone to see what hot new looks we will have at RaeLynn's Boutique.

Maybe this year for prom, your dress will be inspired by one of the pageant evening gowns worn during the Miss Universe Pageant!

Fall Prom Dresses in Indiana!!

Hey Ladies!  It’s hard to believe that it’s that time again! Some schools have their Fall Prom starting early in the Indiana.  Kokomo High School Prom is in November and the girls have already begun shopping! The trend for this year's Homecoming Dresses & Fall Prom Dresses are both short and long, print, solid, sophisticated and funky! Colors seem to be bright and bold, and the girls are allowing their dresses to be as unique as they are!

What to look for in your Bridesmaid Dresses

How do you find the perfect bridesmaid dress?

In a broader view, there really are multiple secrets. Fabric, style, length, and color make or break the look and camaraderie of the bridesmaids with the bride, let alone the entire decoration of the wedding itself. This may sound intimidating, but it really is necessary to pull the look together.

Deciding on your Bridesmaid's Fabric

The best advice here is to think of the time of year. Silk Shantung, a heavier and more structured fabric, would most likely work best in the fall, winter, or early spring. Silk chiffon on the other hand, may be better for warmer times of the year.

How about Length

Length is totally personal preference when it comes to the bride, but the venue is a good thing to think about too. Is the wedding outside during the peak of heat in August? If so, one may not want her bridesmaids to be in long gowns.

And Color??

Color, as well, depends on the season and personal preference of the bride. If the colors of the wedding are periwinkle and silver, the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses should comply or compliment those colors.

Make sure your Bridesmaid Dresses are Stylin'

Style is probably the most important of dress secrets. Try to remember that all women come in different shapes and sizes. You may love a cut out back, but if one of your bridesmaids is a size 24, she may feel extremely uncomfortable. In the same respect, bridesmaids’ dresses are not “the sisterhood of the traveling dress”. Just like any other dress, one style does not flatter everyone; so try to come to a happy medium with you and your girls.

Something great that has come up in the past few seasons as well, is different styles of dresses with the same color and fabric. This way, everyone continues to look put together, but each dress flatters each bridesmaid, actually creating less distraction. A sash also always pulls different styles together as one. Most importantly, remember that one designer may have everything you’re looking for.

Jenny Yoo, for example, has a wide variety of colors varying with each fabric. Styles differ with types of fabric, but fabric changes are also available. Sashes as well can be purchased with any style chosen.

As with any aspect of a wedding, bridesmaid dresses can be as simple or complicated as you make them to be, but with the right knowledge and the best intentions, they can really pull a wedding together to be the best day your life.

RaeLynn’s Girls Take on Kings Island!!

This past Tuesday I had the great opportunity to have a sleepover at the store and travel to King’s Island with my coworkers and employers from RaeLynn’s Boutique. Being the newest employee and only having worked with a few of the girls, I was nervous about how I would fit in- especially since I was the oldest of the girls. Soon, however, I knew we would all have a blast.

The night before we left for the amusement park we all gathered together for a sleepover on the store floor with pizza and junk food. Not everyone could make it to the slumber party, but we did have a good turnout. We played music, danced around, took a ton of pictures, and watched The Hangover before falling asleep. I had a great time learning more about the wonderful girls that I work with.

We woke up early the next morning to hit the road and start riding roller coasters. We all piled into the big white van Alison and Bridgett rented for us to all fit into. We had a great trip up. I happened to bring my iPod so the girls in front played a bunch of upbeat music and we had a crazy dance party in the van. We probably drove Alison and Bridgett crazy with the loud, nonstop rap music.

Two hours later we finally arrived at Kings Island!! The first ride we rode was Drop Tower. This was the highlight of my day. We all pressured Bridgett into facing her fear and ride it with us. She was in terror. Allie and I held her hands on each side of her while tears streamed down her face. We did our best to comfort her through the journey. Before we knew it the ride was over and we were back on the ground. Bridgett made it through! I think Allie and I both lost circulation in our hands from Bridgett holding on so tight, but it was worth it.

By the time we got back to the car we were exhausted. We had a great time together. We rode almost every ride, got henna tattoos, ate blueberry ice cream, and took pictures with Snoopy. It was a great bonding experience for all of us. I got to know all of my wonderful coworkers more and they got to know the new girl more as well. It was so amazing that “Al” and “B” closed down the store from selling Prom Dresses and Tuxedos for a day to take all of us to King’s Island.  It was a great break from normal life! I had an amazing time and I will never forget it.
